Product benefits

Space where it matters - more space than any other system

The InVivoStar utilises a distinctively shaped clamping bracket linked to the positioning manipulator via a long but rigid mounting arm. This enables ultimate stability - and the stable manipulator body is mounted well away from the sample, giving you huge space to work. (different arm options are available).

Position the manipulator where you want it

Easily mount it on an antivibration table, a magnetic base, a Scientifica or homemade stage or anywhere you like, offering limitless flexibility for various experimental environments.

Know your angle for you precise positioning

Digital angle readout of the approach angle via the LinLab software means you can accurately position your electrode at the precise area of interest, ensuring reliable recording every time.

Built upon the globally trusted PatchStar

The InVivoStar is built upon the globally trusted PatchStar motorised micromanipulator. Experience the confidence and reliability that comes with using the best in the world system for your in vivo experiments.

Your experiments, your probe

The design lets you attach your chosen probe easily to its stable, straightforward clamping mechanism, streamlining your setup and providing the flexibility to meet your specific research needs (min. rod diameter: 2.15mm, Max. rod diameter: 4mm.)

Maximise sample comfort and attention for the most reliable results

The InVivoStar's extremely low audible noise, both during motor operation and at rest, ensures your sensitive samples remain undisturbed by audible noise, improving the quality of your electrophysiological data.

Explore entire brain regions

The versatile system lets you set your penetration (approach) angle anywhere between vertical and horizontal, giving you total freedom no matter what brain region you are trying to reach.

Maximise tissue health

Using the unique 'snail' function to precisely control the movement of the manipulator, your probe can 'creep' to the desired position at a speed of your choice, maximising tissue health. This ensures recordings from healthy cells, providing you with reliable data.

Quick reliable change between working and set up positions

With a simple movement, effortlessly position electrodes in and out of the experiment. This ergonomic feature enhances user comfort and helps prevent accidental electrode damage during handling.

Best possible signal detection

Benefit from the InVivoStar's low electrical noise, proven in all Scientifica electrophysiology systems. Enjoy cleaner signals for more reliable and efficient research, free from the hassle of extensive filtering.

Sample protection with secure positioning

The motorised manipulator is equipped with reliable double-locking positions, ensuring your precious sample remains protected from accidental knocks.

Reliable data throughout your experiments

The high stability of the InVivoStar ensures you can maintain precise brain positioning for reliable long-term experiments, ensuring uninterrupted data collection.

Testimonials

"The PatchStar with the In Vivo Adaptor (InVivoStar) significantly improved the stability and reproducibility of our experiments. It also increased the precision of positioning electrical and optical stimulation electrodes during in vivo recordings. The system fits perfectly in the small space left for electrode placement over the setup."

Dr Lisa Mapelli
University of Pavia

"The In Vivo Adaptor with the PatchStar (InVivoStar) has been critical in our electrophysiology experiments. We are using it extensively for simultaneous recordings - its low profile allows us to record in structures that are close together. Altogether, we have managed to fit 4 manipulators on our rig to hold probes for recordings and fibers for optogenetics. With approach mode, we can optimally target deep structures and have now achieved dozens of stable single unit recordings with Neuropixel probes."
